ECO-Buy has undertaken a major review of organisational green purchasing in Australia. ECO-Buy as a Centre of Excellence in Green Purchasing undertakes research in support of its vision that 'Every purchasing decision made in Australia takes the environment into account, considers the full life-cycle of the product or service, and that a vibrant market of suppliers exists to fulfil environmental purchasing needs.'
The project was undertaken in partnership with Netbalance Foundation and funded by three state Governments (the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Envirionment, New South Wales' Department of Environment Climate Change and Water and the Queensland Government's Chief procurement Office).
The report examines the state of green purchasing in Australia and highlights the drivers of green purchasing in orgnaisations. It also examines the barriers to green purchasing and finally identifies a number of recommendations to assist organisations and regulators to make real progress with green purchasing.
The report identifies that there are huge opportunities to progress green purchasing in Australia as many organisations have only made very limited progress. There are also case studies which identify leading practice by organisations in this area.
It is hoped that this report will assist those with an interest in green purchasing to make real progress and stimuate the state of green purchasing in Australia to enable it to be a country that leads in this field.
