Introduction to Green Procurement for Local Government
This course is similar to the Green Procurement Fundamentals course, but is tailored specifically to the local government context. It is run in addition to in-house training sessions held for local government members to give a more in-depth introduction and also allow individuals from separate Councils to share stories and experiences. It will cover:
- What is a green product?
- Understanding impacts through the life cycle
- How to make an environmentally preferable purchase
- Deciphering eco-labels and greenwash
- Busting the ‘green products cost more’ myth
- How to get started and drafting an action plan
The material will be tied together with local government-specific case studies, examples, and exercises to put what you’ve learned into practice.
Who should attend?
Local government procurement or environmental staff who are not yet ECO-Buy Members, but are interested in implementing green procurement.
New employees at member organisations who would like to gain an understanding of the principles of green procurement.
Outcomes:
· Integrate environmental considerations into operational processes
· Build capacity and expertise in the area of green procurement
· Reduce its environmental impacts and ensure more effective use of resources
